Action Project: Eyes on Rep. Hunt

Focus: Monitoring the record of State Representative Randy Hunt (5th Barnstable)

Description

Background:Representative Hunt won his second two-year term in office in November 2012. His philosophy and voting record are consistently very conservative. He is also a member of the Republican Party, which is in very much of a minority position in the State Legislature and thus lacking in necessary clout to secure much needed resources for this district. Two questions naturally arise from these simple facts: 1) does Rep. Hunt’s voting record reflect accurately the sentiments of 5th District voters; and 2) are the needs of the District being well-served?

Action: The Sandwich Democratic Town Committee believes that the answer to both questions is “No”.  It is our goal, therefore, to support a Democratic candidate who will win this seat in an upcoming election. The first step is to carefully monitor  Rep. Hunt’s actual voting and legislative record, and to make this information available throughout the district. This district should be represented by an individual who believes in, and actively supports the following issues:

  • Affordable health care for all residents of the Commonwealth
  • Equal justice under law
  • Environmental protection
  • Retirement security
  • Fair taxation
  • Job creation and workers rights
  • Fair elections and voting rights
  • Commitment to the principle that our state, country and economy are strongest when they provide opportunity for everyone, not simply the wealthy and privileged.

We will provide updates and analysis of Representative Hunt’s legislative record during the 2013 term in order to educate and mobilize voters in this district.
