 What Is a Town Committee?

The basic legal component of political parties in Massachusetts is the Town/Ward committee. They operate under provisions established by the Secretary of the Commonwealth. The Sandwich Democratic Town Committee (SDTC) is thus the Democratic Party unit closest to the voters of Sandwich.

What Does the SDTC Do?

The SDTC provides a forum for understanding and advancing the Party’s agenda and objectives; connecting local Democrats with one or more campaigns that they want to work with; organizing Party members to help with registration and voter turnout initiatives; choosing Sandwich delegates to the State Convention; and generally providing a friendly atmosphere to bring local Democrats together to share interests, concerns, and enthusiasm.

What Kinds of Membership are There?

There are two membership categories: Full and Associate.The permissible level of Full SDTC members is limited by law to 35, elected to four year terms concurrent with the Presidential primary. But Town Committees can have as many Associate members as they desire.  Associates have most of the same rights and privileges as full members. As vacancies occur in full membership preference is given to associates to fill those slots.

What Are the Dues?

Full membership rates are $30 for an individual and $55 dollars for a couple, per year. Associate members pay $25 for an individual and $45 for a couple, per year. Membership fees are due and payable in January of each year. Dues are not prorated for part-year membership. Paid up Associate members who become Full members during any given year pay only the difference between Associate and Full membership rates for that year.
